Five Axis Laser Machine Enables Focal Point Adjustments

The Hoffmann Group’s Garant HB 7010-1 turning grade features P10 gradient carbide for wear resistance at the highest cutting speeds.

According to the company, HB70xx line’s smooth exterior and ductile interior was inspired by sharks’ teeth. The Garant HB 7010-1 offers a wear-resistant and thermo-resistant CVD coating made of aluminum oxide Al203 and titanium carbonitride Ti(CN), which protects the carbide substrate even at high cutting speeds and process temperatures. The carbide substrate is particularly resistant to plastic deformation, splintering, and brittle fracturing Tungsten Carbide Inserts because it is extremely ductile. As a result, this grade offers potential for extended tool life during continuous cutting at high speeds, the company says.

Straightened crystal structures are a key factor in the resistance of this coating. Its extremely smooth surface enables optimum chip evacuation and reduces the friction between the component and the tool material, lowering process temperatures.

In contrast to the casing, the core of the indexable insert is ductile. The carbide substrate is graded, which means that it has an increased proportion of titanium nitride in the outer layer in order to adapt the thermal expansion coefficient to the coating. As a result, the coating optimally adheres to the substrate, the company says. It adds that because of the similar thermal expansion coefficient, the coating cannot shear VNMG Insert away, even at high process temperatures.

The Advantages OfCBN Inserts

* Long Tool Life
CBN cutting tools have properties that resist chipping and cracking and provide uniform hardness and abrasion resistance in all directions. They may outperform conventional cutting tools by as much as 50 times. Reduced tool wear results in closer tolerances on workpieces, and fewer tool adjustments keep machine downtime to a minimum.

* High Material -Removal Rates
Because CBN cutting tools are so hard and resist abrasion so well,CBN cutting toolscan withstand the high temperatures created by increased speeds and feeds. This results in higher material-removal rates with less tool wear, which reduces the total machining cost per piece.

* High-Quality ProductsLathe Carbide Inserts
Because the cutting edges ofCBN cutting toolswear very slowly, they produce high-quality parts faster and at a lower cost per piece than conventional cutting tools.

* Good Surface FinishTNGG Insert
Surface finishes of less than 10 microns. are possible, which often eliminates the need for relatively slow finishing operations such as conventional grinding.

* Lower Cost per Piece
CBN cutting tools stay sharp and cut efficiently through long production runs. These results in better control over workpiece shape and size and fewer cutting-tool changes. This lowers manufacturing costs per piece by reducing inspection time and increasing machine uptime.

The Evolution Of Cemented Carbide

Carbide woodworking planer knivesCVD Coated Insert , also known as carbide planer blades or carbide inserts, are cutting tools used in woodworking planers. They are made from a combination of carbide and other materials, which makes them highly durable and capable of withstanding the demands of woodworking.

Carbide planer knives have several advantages over traditional high-speed steel (HSS) blades. They retain their sharpness longer, resulting in less downtime for sharpening or blade changes. Carbide is also more resistant to wear and can handle abrasive materials, such as hardwoods or exotic woods, more effectively. Additionally, carbide blades can provide cleaner and smoother cuts due to their sharp edges and excellent cutting performance.

It's worth noting that carbide planer knives can APMT Insert be more expensive than HSS blades upfront, but their longer lifespan and improved performance can offset the initial investment over time.

What materials are single flute carbide end mills typically used for, and why?

The biggest and most important difference is that tungsten refers to the individual metal, whereas tungsten carbide is an alloy of tungsten and carbon. Small quantities of other metals such as nickel and titanium might be added for specific properties.

Pure tungsten provides good arc stability for AC sine wave welding, so it is often used as electrodes for tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding.

Tungsten carbide is much harder than tungsten, so it is used to make cutting tools for machining among other things.

ANKT Milling Inserts

At the height of the Space Race both Soviet and American astronauts faced an unforeseen challenge: taking notes when the lack of gravity rendered normal pens inoperable. The Americans reputedly "spent millions" on an advanced pressurized space pen while the Soviets—they simply Carbide Drilling Inserts brought pencils.

While this anecdote is really designed to illustrate the technical mindset differences between the US And USSR space programs it is based on a true story. The space pen NASA employed during the Apollo program wasn't designed by the government agency but rather the Fisher Space Pen Co. Paul Fisher, the company's founder and inventor of the universal ink refill cartridge, had reportedly sunk more than a million dollars and multiple years developing the "anti-gravity" AG7 pen when he submitted his design for testing in 1966. Two years later, Apollo 7 astronauts carried them into orbit.

The AG7 uitilizes a sealed cartridge filled with gelled ink that liquefies only when exposed to pressure, conveniently provided by another cartridge filled with inert nitrogen gas. The tungsten carbide Tungsten Steel Inserts ballpoint tip prevents interaction between the ink and the surrounding environment, meaning the pen can write upside-down, underwater, in temperatures ranging from -30 to 250 degrees F, and of course, in the weightlessness of space.

The Fisher Space Pen is still being made today, you can pick one up for $50. As for the Russians' Space Pencils, turns out graphite and wood shavings make for an explosive mixture in the cramped, oxygen-rich interiors of orbiters—as the Apollo 1 fire illustrated—and have since been replaced with, what else, the Fisher Space Pen.
